Service/Ward/Department Psychiatry – General Adult

Hours of work 40hrs – 10PA’s
At Stepping Hill we can provide services for the elderly, child and adolescents and general adults. To support these services we have sector community mental health teams, home treatment team, mental health recovery and inclusion team, community alcohol and drugs team, psychological services, learning disabilities, rehabilitation services, access and crisis team and early intervention team. The age ranges from 16 year old onwards. The sizes of the teams vary depending on demand of the service. The General Adult position is based at Stepping Hill Hospital, Poplar Grove, Stockport, SK2 7JE.
This is an exciting opportunity to perform the role of sector Consultant Psychiatrist.
The post holder will be required to cover a sector in the Stockport area which will include, Gatley, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme North, Adswood, Edgeley, Cale Green and Shaw Heath . The Consultant will be required to do in-patient and out-patient work and to work close conjunction with various Mental Health Teams in the department. Educational and clinical supervision will be part of the role and there is scope to get involved with service development.
Key Responsibilities of the Post:
Has overall remit of supporting the adult Consultant group with the responsibility for managing adult patients with all types of mental health problems in Stockport and the adjacent High Peak area of Derbyshire.
Duties will consist of assessing patients admitted to a 23 bedded ward and where appropriate initiating treatment.
To work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team.
Communication will be established with the appropriate Consultant/General Practitioner and advice & support sought as needed.
There will be a contribution to be made in terms of leadership and support of development of the service.
Key Requirements of the Person Specification:
• MBChB or equivalent
• Full registration with the GMC and
• Licences to practice and on Specialist Register through UK training or CESR
• Be Section 12 and AC Approved
• Good Interpersonal and team working skills. Leadership skills.
• Knowledge of relevant requirements and legislation such as the Mental Health Act, Care Programme Approach etc.
• Experience relevant to modern community orientated adult psychiatry.
• Experience of teaching and training.
• Committed to Continuing Professional development.
• Flexible and able to adapt.
• Enthusiastic and likely to contribute to the life of the department
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
