Service/Ward/Department Summary:

The Community Paediatric Service is a consultant led service diagnosing and supporting children and their families who are experiencing neurodevelopmental difficulties. They support in clinics and schools helping to improve the lives of children with complex needs.

The team is co-located alongside their Complex Needs multi-agency colleagues and services at:

1st Floor, Waterside House, Waterside, Sale.M33 7ZF.

The service aims are always to provide high quality, holistic packages of care for all children and families in conjunction with our other health, education and social care providers. This is a team with a strong evidence based approach to treatment and care for children with long-term and complex needs difficulties. The team have worked collaboratively with commissioners to improve pathways and access to diagnosis and support for ADHD and Autism.

Role Summary:

  • The post holder will work under the support and direction of the ND Nurse and/or Paediatric Consultant to provide practical support to children, young people and families with ADHD and or ASD as identified in their care plans.
  • The work will include 1:1 consultation, QB testing, outreach support, and assisting in the delivery of our ADHD and ASD parent workshops.
  • To implement individual care plans without direct supervision but under the direction of the ND Nurse or Paediatric Consultant.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Post:

To work without direct supervision with children and young people and their families to an agreed care plan. Appropriate clinical and management supervision will be provided from within the team

To assist the ND Nurse or Paediatric Consultant in their assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individual care plans.

To provide individual and group work to assist in the development of personal knowledge of ADHD/ASD and parenting or behaviour/self-management skills and promote positive change.

To identify and assess situations and conditions that put a child at risk of abuse / neglect, following local child protection procedures.

Support children, young people and their families at home, in clinic and other settings, and in conjunction with other agencies, providing a link and liaison role that families can access for appropriate services.

Key Requirements of the Person Specification:

 

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in relevant subject, with experience to NVQ 4 Level

Qualification / training in working with children and young people with ADHD, ASD or challenging behaviours / mental health issues

Willingness to undertake appropriate training

Experience of working with children and young people in a community setting

Experience of multi-agency working
